The current owners are golfers themselves, and the mill's position was no accident — four very different courses lie within thirty-five minutes.
About 500 metres from the door. Europe's only desert-style course, built to USGA specifications and modelled on the fairways of Arizona and California, it sets emerald greens against a landscape of cactus, rock and arid flora. 18 holes, par 71 — and, along with Aguilón, the owners' own first recommendation.
18 holes, par 71, in Vera. Rugged natural topography resolved with elevated, emblematic tees and sweeping coastal views from many holes.
18 holes, par 70, in Pulpí. Fairways set beneath bare rock mountains at the junction of natural ravines, with sweeping views of the coast.
18 holes, par 72, in Mojácar. Laid out across coastal plain, slope and a small interior valley for a genuinely varied round.
All four courses are open to visiting golfers; tee times are best arranged in advance, particularly in the cooler months.
For a change of rhythm, the historic thermal spa of Archena lies roughly 152 km away (about 1h30 by car), in the Valle de Ricote, Murcia. Its thermal waters have drawn visitors for generations, and it makes for a natural day or weekend excursion for guests staying long enough to explore further afield — a slower counterpart to the mornings spent on the course.
Beyond golf, the coast between Vera, Garrucha and Mojácar is well served by tennis and paddle courts, fitness centres and municipal sports facilities — useful for keeping a routine during a longer stay. Full contact details for local clubs are available on request.
About 500 metres from the house — the closest of four courses within thirty-five minutes.
The owners themselves recommend Desert Springs and Aguilón first, though all four courses have their own character.
The historic Balneario de Archena is about 152 km away (roughly 1h30 by car), a good day or weekend excursion.
